The Bible is a book about CHANGE. If one does not desire to change, I would not recommend them to become a student of the Bible. From Genesis to Revelations there is this story of CHANGE. It begins in Genesis with God changing chaos to order and culminates in Revelations with life here on earth to living in the New Jerusalem.

Tonight’s lesson deals with personal CHANGE. HOLY LIVING. Please don’t get nervous on me. Paul in his letter to those in Roman addresses the new life that is available to the believer if they are willing to allow the Spirit of God to enter into their lives. In these three chapters, Paul deals with the subject of Holy Living.

In chapter 6, Paul speaks to the believer’s RELATIONSHIP with Sin. The once sinful is no longer is a SLAVE to the sinful nature because of the WORK of Christ through the POWER of the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 7 explains that we do not gain Holiness by keeping the law. The law does not give us the POWER we need to live a Holy life.

In chapter 8, Paul stresses the importance of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. It is by the POWER of the Holy Spirit the believer becomes how God wants us to be. Here are

Four ministries of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer –

  • Walk according to the Spirit (v. 2-4)
  • Set your mind on the things of the Spirit (v. 5-8)
  • Put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit (v. 13)
  • Be led by the Spirit (v. 14)

God through His Spirit gives meaning, guidance, and comfort, resulting in a sound mind. We have the peace of God when led by the Spirit of God.
